Media reacts as Red Raiders sweep Longhorns, Chris Beard

Texas Tech couldn’t have drawn up a better basketball week. Earlier this week, the No. 11 Red Raiders completed their season sweep of fellow Big 12 title contender Baylor by winning in Lubbock. And on Saturday, in front of thousands of Red Raider fans who made their way to Austin, Texas Tech defeated No. 20 Texas 61-55 in a physical game to sweep the Longhorns.

The first matchup between the two teams was one of the most intense contests of the year, played in a hostile atmosphere against the backdrop of Texas coach Chris Beard returning to take on his former team, helmed by his former top assistant, Mark Adams. That set up Saturday’s return trip, with both teams leaning on their elite defenses to try and wrestle free a victory.

The game was tied at halftime, with the Red Raiders getting the better of the Longhorns in the second half, building a lead that swelled to as many as 10 points late. But Texas quickly went on a 9-0 run to make things tighter down the stretch, though the ‘Horns weren’t able to complete the comeback effort.
